Pollock, in the guise of intrepid investigative reporter, has received this message from the infamous John Daniel regarding this year's swapmeet:
"Regretfully, the committee decided at the post mortem meeting last
December to wind up the event as we were told that Slough Council are
planning to demolish the Centre and the Ice Arena in the next couple of
years or so.
This news of a closure, allied to the general decline in attendance and
the poor health of a senior committee member, resulted in the member's
decision to call it a day.
We would like to thank all VW aircooled owners, traders and visitors, who have supported the event over the years".

ReplyDeleteJust wanted to confirm, in case you hadn’t already heard. Slough Swapmeet is back again on the 2nd November 2014 at the Montem Leisure Centre in Slough.
DeleteWe want to make this the biggest and best event ever! (Big shoes to fill we know!).
Obviously most of you will have seen the press releases to say that the event had been cancelled. Myself (Vince) and Robin have taken it upon ourselves to resurrect the event for the benefit of the VW community. We've taken a big risk by putting our cash on the line but we're hopeful that the amazing VW folks out there will get behind us. We can confirm the hall is booked, traders are registering, the tables are ordered and we are good to go!
What we need more than anything else is for people to spread the word that it is on.
If you are interested in a table (traders or individuals) for preregistration please send a mail to: traders@sloughswapmeet.co.uk with the following information:
• contact name
• trading name (if applicable)
• mobile number
• email address
The tables are 6ft x 2ft6 and available at £30 each.
Please pass this information on to any friends that you think might be interested.
We're also intending to run 'King of the Carpark' - our own take on a 'Show & Shine' competition. Anyone who makes it into the main carpark will be eligible to enter and there will be trophies for a wide variety of categories from super shiny right through to daily driver.

The support we've received so far has been amazing and the VW community in general is made up of a great and supportive bunch of people. Please do what you can to support this event by means of promoting or attending so we can hopefully bring it back again next year.
