Apex Festival

The weekend of May 17th - 19th was the second running of the Apex Festival, held at Lydden Hill race circuit in Kent. Located just 5 miles outside Dover, there were plenty of Foreign Johnnies at the show - some had even popped over just for the day.

A small group of L'E'Ns headed down Friday/Saturday, pitched up with the Wolfsburg Weedhuggers and settled in for a weekend of roundy-roundy fun. Elsewhere on site Pollock was trading, ably supervised by his son Matt.

There were track sessions for Formula Vee, Drifting and open sessions for cars not run in yet - ideal for Dan! Sunday morning saw the Show & Shine take centre stage until the track opened at lunchtime (thanks to a Sunday noise curfew).

So, what did we learn from the weekend? 

1. The Apex organisers need to book more toilets - something they readily acknowledge.
2. Red9 front ends really are rubbish. Too short, too soft, too half-arsed.
3. Danny needs a fuel gauge!

An excellent 'small' event, the weather was even with us for the weekend. The Apex organisers are in talks with Mallory Park circuit, near Leicester, for an additional more central event.

On a final note, the Wolfsburg Weedhuggers are holding their own one day show on Sunday June 16th at the Black Horse pub near Great Missenden (HP16 9AX). CLICK for more details.

Bug Jam

It's 2 months until Bug Jam so here's a reminder for tickets.

There's drag racing, monster truck, jet car, roller disco(!), bands & DJs, show & shine, etc etc etc...

Tickets are £80 (non-VW) and £65 (VW) on the gate.

Club Camping advance ticket price is £55 each - this includes booking fee, postage and toilet hire.

Club Camping pass holders are also able to start their Bug Jam early with gates open from Thursday 18th July.

Big Bang

It's just a week to go until the first weekend show of the year, Big Bang, at Santa Pod.

All the usual weekend fun, on the track there's VW only RWYB on Friday and Saturday, championship drag racing from the Super Mods. Outlaw Anglias, 8.50 & 9.50 bikes, junior dragsters and the 'DRC will be running their Daily Driver challenge.

Meanwhile, off track, there's Rust & Rat show on Saturday and the Show & Shine on Sunday as well as kids' entertainment, circus, Jet car, monster truck, fun fair etc.

As for evening entertainent, not so good. Friday offers a Take That tribute act in the marquee or a soft rock disco in the Fuelers Bar. Saturday night has an Indie Tribute band or a Family Disco.

Long term forecasts aren't brilliant, ranging from cloudy to showers so be prepared!

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight will be making a fly past with a WWII Dakota on Sunday.

Moving Day

For a car that's been off the road for 17 years, Howard's Beetle has racked up the miles in recent times.

Last weekend ginga and Howard moved it, again. This time from the Top Secret barn to ginga HQ in an effort to get it out to shows this year.
