If it had a gearbox it'd be a rolling shell but unfortunately that and the engine have already gone. That said, most of it is there, somewhere.

The Biatch Bus

Another Lo 'E' Nuf vehicle that's been lurking for several years is Toby's Crew Cab Bay Window. It's an ex-Swedish Army vehicle that he bought a while ago as an engine-less un-registered import. Toby started work on it and started collecting the parts needed to get it sorted. It has a 1776cc engine in kit form and Porsche Cookie Cutters amongst the parts stash. Unfortunately family, job change, house move and ill health have all conspired to slow, or even stop, progress but Toby's now back on it and it's now at Cris' workshop for the essential welding.

Looks OK from this side but what you can't see is the rear floor rusted away and a very dubious B-pillar repair on the driver's side.

B-pillar has received a mighty thwack at some point and someone has attempted to repair it by welding another section of B-pillar over the damage.

The vehicle was supplied with a cut-out section of B-pillar to help re-repair it so Cris set to it, angle grinder in one hand, welder in the other.

Next step was to weld in the repair section including connecting the bulkhead.

Looking a lot better for it. As well as the B-pillar and floor there are a few smaller welding jobs to be done but very few for a Bay Window. The work continues, the rear floor is now nearly in and Toby has started rebuilding the dashboard.

Another addition to the Where Are They Now? files is the "Silly Sid Roadster", actually owned by "Silly Guy". Currently lurking in Guy's top secret storage facility in Hertfordshire the Roadster is serving well as a makeshift potting shed table.

Guy reports that the biggest headache is the wiring loom, apparently the mice prefer that to the classic 90s fabrics.

Also lurking in Guy's garage is his last remaining part from when he owned the 2nd oldest known RHD Notchback. This was sold to a Japanese collector back when prices were good and is currently thought to be on display in a Tokyo apartment. Mind you, this might all be part of Guy's fevered imaginaton as no one else remembers seeing this car.

A blast from the past for the New Year

Here's one most of you have never heard of let alone seen. There have been rumours over the years, whispered tales of ginga's long lost Type 3 lurking somewhere in another one of his lock-ups. Many people dismissed these as just exaggerated stories, no one was silly enough to leave a Variant in a lock up that long, were they?

Well, yesterday it saw daylight for the first time in many, many years - mainly caused by a sticking padlock that was finally persuaded to open. Nothing like a large can of WD40 and a hammer to solve all your problems.

This car was ginga's daily driver in his student days and was his first aircooled VW, hence it surviving this long. It was at the very first Lo 'E' Nuf meeting all those many years ago and attended many VW shows at t'Pod, Avon Park, RTTS etc.

After crunching first the rear and then the front of the car ginga put it to one side for future attention. Then the tax ran out so it was stored, temporarily, in a lock up until he moved to somewhere with a garage so he could start the repairs. Oh well...

ginga continued to source parts for the repair and restoration. As well as the pair of Day Mouldings front wings resting on the roof there are several doors, a tail gate, front and rear valances and a spare front beam in there. There are also some rear wings somewhere, possibly in another lock up.

And a spare Type 4 engine, as you do.

It had had extensive welding not long before it entered hibernation so went into the lock up in a relatively good state - aside from the obvious collision damage. Hopefully it won't have deteriorated too much over the years. With each new project queue jumping ahead of it the poor thing's going to have to wait a bit longer. One day...

Howard's Beetle has been in top secret secure storage for many years (see earlier post) but the re-development of the garage block meant that he had to find new storage. Luckily ginga had a spare lock up kicking about so all they had to do was move it over.

Outlaw Flat Four 2009

Outlaw Flat Four have released a provisional calendar for 2009 including, for the first time, championship rounds at Santa Pod.





Probably the most eagerly awaited round is Bug Jam 23 where the Outlaws will be competing in front of their first major UK VW show but their usual NSRA and Bug-In rounds are still on the calendar.

Lo 'E' Nuf goes all Time Team

Unearthed from a top secret location in Hertfordshire is this survivor from the golden age of UK VWs.



With no hard dating evidence it's quite difficult to tell just how long this relic has been hiding.

It's possible that these strange pictograms may be able to help, if only the experts could decipher them.





The manner of the interior decoration is quite distinctive so may also help in the dating process.



Archaeologists normally like to use certain known items for dating objects or sites. Things such as preserved nuts, seeds or grains, maybe some decorated pottery or perhaps worked metal. Here all they have to work with is 2 expired tax discs.



Plan is to move this valuable historic relic to a safer more secure site and, one day, preserve it for future generations.

Well, Slough has been and gone so that's it for 2008.

We came, we saw, we froze our asses off, we left. Despite all the best plans you never get everything you're after and you end up spending more time touring the car park then actually buying anything. But what the hey, it's a day out!
