Grand Designs pt2

On Saturday we were able to give a full day to renovating the House Of Loud. Dan & Dom did the technical stuff, ginga & Cookie removed the floors and walls and Cris & Big H went to Wickes in the Sunshine Bus.

This build is a Unibond-Evostik collaboration

No mod cons

Cris checks out Turbonutta Industries new technology centre

Suited up for a trip into the loft

Looking a lot better - floor tiles gone, wallpaper gone

Dan & Cookie are amazed by the progress while Big H makes himself useful with the kettle

Grand Designs

Dannyboy and Loud Bird have recently bought their first house, in Chesham. The challenge now is to get it in a livable state. It's having a total rewire and replumb, along with walls down etc. I popped round on Thursday evening to see what they've let themselves in for.

Living room - complete with water feature

Fully fitted kitchen

Nice radiator - not so nice curtains

Nikki's walk in wardrobe

Errr, no it's not

The bungalow is of an unusual fabricated steel frame construction, rather than the usual block/brick walls, and is getting the full Turbonutta AV treatment. Unfortunately at this stage it's got to get worse before it can get better.

Some say...

...that he's a top secret engineer on a brief break from jetting around the world, others that he started building his Westfield before he was born. All we know is that we want his job.

For Sale

Duncan, of popular Wycombe duo Doogie & Geri, is selling his 1964 Golde sunroof Beetle.

If it had a gearbox it'd be a rolling shell but unfortunately that and the engine have already gone. That said, most of it is there, somewhere.

The Biatch Bus

Another Lo 'E' Nuf vehicle that's been lurking for several years is Toby's Crew Cab Bay Window. It's an ex-Swedish Army vehicle that he bought a while ago as an engine-less un-registered import. Toby started work on it and started collecting the parts needed to get it sorted. It has a 1776cc engine in kit form and Porsche Cookie Cutters amongst the parts stash. Unfortunately family, job change, house move and ill health have all conspired to slow, or even stop, progress but Toby's now back on it and it's now at Cris' workshop for the essential welding.

Looks OK from this side but what you can't see is the rear floor rusted away and a very dubious B-pillar repair on the driver's side.

Rotten floor cut out and tidied up

B-pillar has received a mighty thwack at some point and someone has attempted to repair it by welding another section of B-pillar over the damage.

Inner view shows section of B-pillar removed to 'assist' repair

The vehicle was supplied with a cut-out section of B-pillar to help re-repair it so Cris set to it, angle grinder in one hand, welder in the other.

Cut out the gnarly stuff

Going for the hard top conversion

Next step was to weld in the repair section including connecting the bulkhead.

Looking a lot better for it. As well as the B-pillar and floor there are a few smaller welding jobs to be done but very few for a Bay Window. The work continues, the rear floor is now nearly in and Toby has started rebuilding the dashboard.

Putting the 'Store' back into Restoration

Another addition to the Where Are They Now? files is the "Silly Sid Roadster", actually owned by "Silly Guy". Currently lurking in Guy's top secret storage facility in Hertfordshire the Roadster is serving well as a makeshift potting shed table.

Interior looks OK

Bodywork is holding up well

Guy reports that the biggest headache is the wiring loom, apparently the mice prefer that to the classic 90s fabrics.

Also lurking in Guy's garage is his last remaining part from when he owned the 2nd oldest known RHD Notchback. This was sold to a Japanese collector back when prices were good and is currently thought to be on display in a Tokyo apartment. Mind you, this might all be part of Guy's fevered imaginaton as no one else remembers seeing this car.
